AppsFlyer: cross-channel marketing analytics (and why ‘two dashboards’ is not it)
AppsFlyer argues cross-channel analytics is an identity problem first: without a first-party user ID layer, every channel over-claims conversions and your ROAS math quietly breaks.

The headline
If you are looking at Meta’s dashboard and Google’s dashboard and calling it “cross-channel”, you are probably double-counting the same customer. AppsFlyer’s core point is blunt: a prettier dashboard does not fix an identity layer problem.
The parts worth stealing
1) The real definition of “cross-channel”
Cross-channel analytics means a conversion is counted once, then credit is split consistently across touchpoints. It is not just channel totals side-by-side.
2) Why it got harder (and stays harder)
They point to three structural forces:
- privacy signal loss (ATT, cookie limits)
- walled gardens self-reporting their own credit
- identity breaking across app, web, desktop, CTV
The practical takeaway: you cannot “model your way out” of fragmented identity.
3) The foundation is a first-party ID (CUID)
Their recommended foundation is a first-party customer identifier tied to login (or equivalent), so you can reconcile journeys across surfaces without relying on platform IDs that come and go.
4) Get dedupe right before you automate
A strong line in the piece: AI-driven budget and bidding systems will optimize toward whatever credit they are shown. If every channel is over-claiming, automation makes the wrong decisions faster.
How to use this on Monday
- If you have two systems claiming the same sale, decide which one is the source of truth for budget decisions.
- Treat identity stitching as a product requirement (not just an analytics task): where do you set a stable user ID, and where does it get lost?
Tiny win
Pick one “conversion” everyone argues about (trial start, subscription purchase, lead). Write a one-page spec:
- what event counts,
- which system records it first,
- what ID joins it across app and web,
- how you deduplicate it.
