Apple Search Ads in UK Finance: paid visibility is not just ‘the banks’ anymore (ConsultMyApp)
ConsultMyApp benchmarks Apple Search Ads visibility across 40 UK finance keywords. The useful takeaway is not ‘who won’, it is how fragmented intent gets, and how organic leadership can still lose the paid layer above it.
ConsultMyApp ran a simple but revealing benchmark: 40 UK finance-related iOS search terms, then checked who shows up in the top paid auction slots vs who ranks organically.

The one-line lesson
In high-intent categories, “organic winner” and “paid winner” can be two different companies. If a competitor buys the paid layer above you, your organic rank does not get first shot at the click.
What stood out
- Finance intent is messy. Banking searches attract more than banks (payments, accounting, transfer apps), and product keywords (ISA, mortgage, insurance) can flip the competitive set completely.
- The paid layer is an interception surface. Even if you are the strongest organic result, users can still meet your competitor first.
- Keyword clustering mistakes are expensive. Treating “savings”, “cash ISA”, and “stocks and shares ISA” as one cluster hides that users are expressing very different jobs.
Why this matters (practically)
If you run ASA in a blended structure, you can end up:
- defending generic terms while losing the product-intent terms that actually convert
- assuming “organic is strong, so we are fine” while paid competitors siphon the top funnel
Tiny win (45 minutes)
Pick one high-value product keyword cluster and do a quick three-column audit:
- What users mean (one sentence per keyword)
- Your CPP promise (what the ad leads with)
- First in-app screen reality (does it match the promise)
If those three do not line up, paid traffic will still come, but it will not compound.
