ConsultMyApp: the UK gambling App Store search map (why ‘bingo cash’ is its own market)

A credited summary of ConsultMyApp’s UK gambling search research across iOS organic, Google Play organic, and Apple Search Ads. Useful pattern: intent splits are sharper than category labels, and organic P1 rarely equals ‘page ownership’ once ads are included.

ConsultMyApp used APPlyzer to analyse UK gambling search across iOS organic, Google Play organic, and Apple Search Ads placements. The headline isn’t “who won”, it’s how fragmented real user intent is once you stop thinking in neat store categories.

The two most transferable lessons (even if you’re not in gambling)

1) Your biggest keyword might be the “weird” modifier

Their example: “bingo cash” showed far higher demand than “bingo”, and it behaves like a separate product market (cash-prize / casual crossover) rather than a sub-keyword.

The general pattern: modifiers like cash, real money, free, live, exchange, results, odds often signal a different proposition, different compliance expectations, and a different conversion story.

2) Organic rank does not equal page ownership

They call out how rarely iOS organic P1 matched Apple Search Ads P1 across observations. That’s the reminder teams need: your real competitive set changes when you include the paid layer.

Practical takeaways

  • Split by intent before you split by brand. Start with “what are they trying to do?” not “which competitor do we hate?”
  • Build landing pages (or CPPs/CSLs) for intent clusters. If “cash” intent and “brand” intent both go to the same default page, you’re wasting the ad layer.
  • Treat ad and organic as one surface. A keyword where you rank #1 organically may still be an acquisition battleground if competitors can sit above you in ads.

Tiny win (45 minutes)

Take your top 20 search terms.

  • Add one label column: intent (generic, brand, modifier, problem-to-solve).
  • Add a second column: best landing (default page vs variant).

If more than 30% of terms map to “default page”, you have a quick creative roadmap.
